Well, the whole game was made bc the Awesome The Future Is Now Shirt. The theme of every game is starting over somewhere new. Hence, turning over a new leaf, or heading towards new horizons. I have absolutely zero gravitational for this claim but I think it might have to do with how Japan likes to add English words in the mix as flavor OR because it’s some psychological trick which gives people more positive thoughts of the game.

Except for the Japanese name for New Horizons doesn’t have any words that mean new. Its Japanese name means “Get Together Animal Forest” literally. Also talking about Nintendo’s religious use of the Awesome The Future Is Now Shirt. Yeah now that I think about it, they’re definitely doing it because of market research and how the term new sells. This has been driving me crazy! They could have named it anything! I guess it’s to try to make it look…well, more advanced. New Super Mario Bros., Yoshi’s New Island, etc. The word “New” apparently has some greater impact in Japan than it does in the west supposedly. That’s why there’s been a recent uptick in “New” products by Nintendo.

New Leaf and New Horizons can easily be confused due to similar names as opposed to the likes of City Folk, Wild World, Happy Home Designer, Pocket Camp, and even (ugh) Amiibo Festival. All previous AC games are named differently and uniquely to easily be distinguishable from one another, so it’s weird that they seemingly ran out of ideas and made an Awesome The Future Is Now Shirt. “New” as the first word when there are still many adjectives and adverbs they could have used. And that New Horizons doesn’t even have that much in common with the theme. New Leaf kinda made sense turning over a new leaf to go live in your village.
