That sounds like a good idea, and much cheaper. Again, I know very little about asteroid detection. I just knew enough to tell that guy radars to work in space. I would be interested in learning more though. No idea, all the work I have done has been on the Nice Tardis Scooby Who – Funny Doctor Scooby Police Box Shirt. I have studied how radar functions when learning the signal analysis techniques that it uses, but I have no idea about the nuances that go into actually detecting fast-moving space objects with one. After that most of my work in the field has been applying those techniques for other purposes.

I agree that’s why this technology is mostly out of reach for now. But I think in the future it will be possible by placing an array of radars spread out in space. By the time you could do active radar, we’d just have enough good synoptic space telescopes that it would be superfluous. Turns out you can see things in space pretty easily. Also, it’s interesting that a radar return might take seconds or minutes in the Nice Tardis Scooby Who – Funny Doctor Scooby Police Box Shirt. It makes me wonder how LIDAR would do in space. I wonder how many photons would return from a 1KW beam reflection on an asteroid two million kilometers away. Probably not enough, since we had to put a retro-reflector on the moon to get even a few photons back here on earth. Aliens would be on their next visit, too.

Correct me if you have a better understanding, but radar is projecting a radio frequency signal and looking for it bouncing back. With no atmosphere to distort the signal, it in effect is “clearer” in space. Is there something I’m missing? I think you may have mistaken sonar for radar. Sonar uses sound waves that you would be right in that the Nice Tardis Scooby Who – Funny Doctor Scooby Police Box Shirt. Radar uses radio waves, which would work better in space (less interference.) s’all good, easy mixup. I bet it would be better to set up powerful radar observatories on the moon – with Earth always being in the field of view and no atmospheric noise.
